Artist Statement: I decided to take a photo of my brother Ashay because he means a lot to me. Ashay, as shown in the photo, has a very contagious smile, and he automatically brings joy and happiness to any room that he walks into. He's an awesome brother, and very fun to be around. When taking this photo, I staged it in the outdoors, because firstly, it gives you natural light to bring the photo to life, and being outdoors is one of the main parts of Ashay's personality. He loves being outside and doing different outdoor activities. In addition, I made sure that the eyes of Ashay followed the rules of using the Center Dominant Eye. Ashay's dominant eye is his left one, so I made sure that I centered that eye in the photo. By blurring the background, I also created some contrast between the subject and background, which made the portrait stick out more and become more visible. As I mentioned earlier, light is so incredibly important when taking portraits, because light makes your portraits more lively, which is why I made sure there was an abundance of light in these pictures. All of these factors led to making sure I positioned the camera and my subject in the correct way to take a great portrait!
